MATTING POLICY
All our groomers love working with dogs and we work closely to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and the 5 freedoms framework. Knots and matting can occur quickly in a dogs coat as they busy themselves, rolling in bushes, long grass and puddles. If your dog isn’t brushed thoroughly and professionally groomed regularly to their coats requirements, matting can become a problem.
Whilst we can give you all the tips you need to help maintain a matt free coat, when a dog comes to us with matting, the welfare and comfort of the dog is our primary concern.
We will try and remove the matting using our professional tools and brushes but this is both uncomfortable for the dog and can be painful.

If this occurs, we will ask to take the coat shorter to enable our clippers to cut the coat without having to pull or tug the fur. After a pain free experience of taking the fur short, a plan can be looked at to help prevent the same problem moving forward. We do not believe it is fair for the dog to try and save a coat with a lot of matts and it will often cause the dog to fear being groomed.
Working through sever matting takes time, skill and patience and dogs are often uncomfortable. Clipping close to the skin takes a lot of time as you need to be careful working closely to the skin when removing the matts. More time will need to be added to the groom and a fee will apply. Please select this option when booking so we know to add on additional time for the groom if your dogs coat has become matted.

FLEAS
Fleas are not just a pest during summer time. They are around all year round and carry diseases such as tapeworm. Checking whether a dog attending a grooming appointment is free of fleas is the responsibility of the dog owner. If you know or suspect your dog has fleas please do not bring them into the salon. Fleas are an inherent risk where multiple dogs come in to be groomed. They are hard to remove both from dog and environment.

If any dog is SUSPECTED of having fleas based on evidence during thorough skin examination, then the groom will be stopped and the owner will be asked to collect the dog urgently. The groom fee will still be charged even if the groom is not complete.

Chemical deep cleaning to kill Flea infestation and provide future protect for all requires 4-6 hours. It necessitates the cancellation of all future grooms that day and forces a loss of revenue upon the groomer. Please do a flea check before coming to the salon.

DANGEROUS OR AGGRESSIVE DOGS
The safety of our staff and the dogs in our care is a key priority for Scruffy Dogs. It is not an acceptable occupational hazard We aim to make all grooming sessions as stress free as possible and we work with the dogs to maintain a calm environment. If a dog isn't trained to be used to being professionally groomed they can find it a very stressful experience, this can make grooming the pet difficult and takes additional time. In this situation, we do not force the dogs, we will take our time and complete the groom if possible however a fee will apply in this situation. to cover the additional time required.
If we are unable to complete the groom because of the behaviour of the dog makes it unsafe for either the pet or groomer, a 75% fee will be apply
